Bio/ Statement
Aoife Ní Dhuinn (Aoife Dunne) is a Dublin based visual artist, who recently graduated from the National College of Art and Design with a First-Class BFA degree in Fine Art Media. Ní Dhuinn completed her graduate show project in June 2023, and was awarded the Fire Station Artist Studios Sculpture Graduate Award 2023 and The Ormond Art Studios Graduate Residency 2023. Recent exhibitions include 21 Bridges to the Sea (group) 2024, Email Shaped Clouds (solo) 2023 and Take Care to Leave A Trace, **(group) Luan Gallery, 2024.
Aoife Ní Dhuinn’s practice responds to culture, words and existential feelings. While dealing with themes of absurdism, Ní Dhuinns work place her work itself within the context of the current digital age. Ní Dhuinns work recontextualizes digital ephemera as artefact-like objects, playing with the interaction between image, sculpture and found materials. Drawn to the physical antithesis of virtual spaces, Ní Dhuinn’s work materialises through natural stone, wood and concrete.
As well her individual practice, Ní Dhuinn makes up one half of a collaborative practice with artist Falon Weaver, which documents collective exchanges through installation, public interventions and publications. Their most recent show ‘Shitposting From The Cryosphere’ (2022) took place in The Atrium Space at NCAD, and included sculpture, textiles and mixed media work. Ní Dhuinn and Weaver are also co-founders and facilitators of After School Special, a Dublin based critique group for emerging artists.
