Bio/ Statement

Aoife Ní Dhuinn is a visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. Through sculpture, drawing and image making, Ní Dhuinn’s work explores human/machine relationships through an absurdist lens, with a particular focus on networked technologies (ie. our smartphones/ computers).

Ní Dhuinn is interested in how aspects of our relationship to these technologies appear IRL(in real life) and the effects of our online existence on our offline lives. Drawn to the physical antithesis of virtual spaces, her work utilizes natural stone, wood, and concrete. Additionally, Ní Dhuinn’s practice includes image-making and assemblages that reflect internet meme culture, presenting research through drawings and photographs.

Ní Dhuinn’s practice is currently supported by the Arts Council Ireland, and is currently one of 6 awarded artists in residence at Clancy Quay Art Studios. Previous awards/ residencies include Agility Award 2023, Fire Station Studios Graduate Award 2023 and Ormond Art Studios Graduate Award 2023. Recent exhibitions include ‘Take Care to Leave A Trace’ (group) 2024, ‘Anti-Rust’ (group) 2024 and ‘Email Shaped Clouds’ (solo) 2023. Ni Dhuinn graduated from the National College of Art and Design in June of 2023 with a First-Class BFA in Fine Art Media.

Since 2021, visual artists Falon Weaver and Aoife Ní Dhuinn have shared a collaborative practice exploring their shared interest in existentialist thought, internet culture, and material exploration. Their practice adopts a broad range of processes including concrete casting, ceramic sculpture, meme making and going for walks.
